National Highways celebrated the research work of its doctoral students and research fellows to mark the inaugural World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development last week.

More than 20 people are studying for PhDs and higher qualifications with universities in partnership with National Highways.

The doctoral students and research fellows at National Highways are contributing to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development goals with their work.

Dr Chrysoula Litina, principal research engineer at National Highways, said: “We are proud that our students and fellows are playing their part to help fulfil the United Nations Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development goals.

“These goals recognise social needs and address how to tackle impacts of climate change, environmental issues, our growing cities and the challenges of new technologies including artificial intelligence.

“We strongly value research and innovation here at National Highways – as we want to continue to build and operate one of the safest and best performing road networks in the world now and in the future.”
