ANPR enables New York’s buses to become enforcers

Buses in New York will be equipped with number plate reading cameras as part of a campaign to end abuse of the US city’s bus lanes. The automatic bus lane enforcement (ABLE) system involves a camera being mounted directly on an operating bus.

The cameras capture images of violations, such as vehicles being stopped in the bus-only lanes, that would have otherwise required substantially more static camera infrastructure.

The ABLE systems have been installed on M15 Select Bus Service buses...
