Councillors in Croydon have agreed to give cyclists permanent access to a busy pedestrianised street at all times of day, despite opposition from groups representing the elderly and partially sighted, and the owners of adjacent shopping centres.

The decision affects North End, a north-south shopping street close to West Croydon railway station. Surveys show  thousands of pedestrians use the street each hour of the day.
