A Private?Bill could be used to give Greater Manchester powers to introduce bus franchising.

The Government said last month that it was “ready to support legislation” if Greater Manchester concluded it wanted to move to a franchised model of bus services. The support is conditional on the election of a mayor for the conurbation (LTT 14 Nov). The authorities initially plan to appoint a mayor, before holding an election for the position in 2017.
