The data recently published by the Office of National Statistics on commuting times contains no real surprises but does perhaps suggest areas of policy where greater effort is required.

The fact that 75% of commuting journeys are half an hour or less in duration suggests a continuing need to concentrate development in main urban areas, where distances and travel times to employment can be kept short.
