Government-owned train operator East Coast is negotiating to take delivery of one of the new Pendolino trains being built to increase capacity on the West Coast Main Line. East Coast would run the train on London-Edinburgh services from next July for nine months. The set would then be returned to the West Coast for the start of the next franchise which is scheduled to begin in April 2012.

The train is one of four new 11-car units which are due for delivery next year but will be held in storage...
