HS2 Ltd has signed the first contract for the HS2 phase 2a project to build a high-speed railway from the West Midlands to Crewe.
The £52m early environmental works contract with Balfour Beatty will create new woods and wetlands.
The 36-mile Phase 2a route will run from Fradley Wood in Staffordshire to a junction with the West Coast Main Line near Crewe. The railway is projected to open alongside Phase 1 from Birmingham to London....
