Coronavirus: Public are avoiding close contact during pandemic

Most people across the UK are avoiding contact with vulnerable people, the Government has revealed.

During the daily coronavirus briefing on 23 April, Health Secretary Matt Hancock revealed for the period 3 to 13 April:

  • 85% of adults said they had either not left their home or only left for the permitted reasons in the past seven days
  • 97% of adults said they have avoided contact with other people from outside their household
  • 93% of adults said they have avoided contact with older or vulnerable people
  • More people are working from home since the introduction of social distancing
  • 49% of adults in employment said they worked from home at some point in the last week, compared to around 12% last year.
