The Chancellor today in his Spending Review provides £300m for the development of "transformative transport projects," in a boost for transport planning.
George Osborne says the money could be used "to provide development funding for projects such as Crossrail 2 and proposals emerging from the Northern Transport Strategy," but will be allocated following advice from the new National Infrastructure Commission next year.
Osborne also finds £475m to invest in local major transport schemes, and cites the North Devon Link Road, A391 in Cornwall and Lowestoft Third River Crossing as potential recipients. His Spending Review's £300m for cycling up to 2020/21 mentions segregated cycling lanes as something this will fund.
