MPs have launched a probe into whether transport planners and the Government are taking into account advances in technology such as driverless cars.
The transport select committee wants to consider what actions the Government should take to develop the necessary financial and legal frameworks to support technological advances in motoring. The backbenchers also want to find out whether current transport planning is taking likely future developments into account.
They are asking for evidence, too, on the Government's role in ensuring that the UK has the necessary infrastructure, such as vehicle-to-infrastructure data networks, and refuelling networks.
Louise Ellman, chair of the Commons committee, said: "We will examine how new motoring technology such as driverless cars and alternative fules could make driving safer, more efficient and more enjoyable. We will consider how the Government can support efforts to make motoring of the future a reality."
