Two landmark buildings in Bristol will be demolished to make way for housing after redevelopment plans were approved by councillors.

Under two parallel schemes, city’s historic Rupert Street multi-storey car park and its Premier Inn hotel and will be replaced by student accommodation schemes.

Both proposals attracted opposition but were voted through after their respective developers saying the buildings had reached the end of their useful life and would be too expensive to refurbish.
