Public transport in ‘precarious state’ post-Covid while car still dominates, says UTG

Public transport in English city regions is in a “precarious state” with fewer people travelling compared with a decade ago and the dominance of the car as strong than ever, says a new report by the Urban Transport Group (UTG).

The total number of trips made per person in 2022 (862) was 10% lower than in 2013 (942), notes the report Inside track: The state of transport 2024. Commuting levels have fallen, with the average number of commuting trips in 2022 (230) 24% lower than in 2012...
