Peak car theory ‘a risky basis for policy’

Britain is not the only developed country to have experienced a plateauing of car traffic in recent years but suggestions that this reflects a saturation of travel demand could be misleading, says an international study.

The idea behind ‘peak car’ – that more income no longer translates into more car travel when incomes are high – has been promoted by professor Phil Goodwin in his monthly LTT columns.
