First past the post for being inconsistent?
FirstGroup’s new chief executive Tim O’Toole is clearly a new broom and eager to make his mark on the industry. And in a conference call following the group’s recent financial results, the American dismissed calls by Stagecoach chief executive Brian Souter for a trial of vertical integration on Britain’s railways.
While O’Toole agreed there are benefits to vertical integration, he added: “We have to be realistic about the UK rail network.
“I do not see the kind of extremely radical vision that others are putting out there.”
And of course with O’Toole’s experience at London Underground dealing with the failed Infracos Metronet and Tubelines, he knows just how well keeping tracks and trains separate works!
