Local transport needs to feed on civic pride

There are not many emotions stronger than a sense of personal identity and pride. For the success of public transport, all the evidence suggests that the greatest possible local management focus, links with the communities being served and an appropriately tailored identity are the winning formula.

Whatever the ownership - public or private, local or national - the services being used are essentially local. Wise commercial owners thus recognise the benefit of closely relating to the communities...
