As integrated transport moves up the agenda, this webinar will cover how bus services can increase connectivity in rural areas, and the benefits this unlocks.
The webinar will look at local authority experience of rural bus service routes and using DRT to enable access to transport, focusing on Surrey County Council. It will also cover the practical considerations for bus franchising and network design in rural areas with recent learning from the WSP bus team.
The panel will be joined by the team from the University of Leeds and the University of the West of England, which evaluated the DfT’s Rural Mobility Fund, to discuss their further work on calculating the value of DRT services and their contribution to local economies.
Finally, Max MacDonald will look at some of the DRT designs which can support integrated transport in rural areas, including flexible routes along corridors and feeder services that enable people to connect to onward bus and rail options.
