Portsmouth's Roadside Renaissance: How Collaboration is Reimagining the Bus Stop

Webinar, 10.30 - 12.00

5 Mar 2026

Webinar

Bus shelters are often overlooked, yet they are where most of us journeys start and play a critical role in shaping how people experience public transport. When infrastructure feels unsafe or inaccessible or just plain unloved, it undermines confidence in the bus network and discourages use.

This joint Portsmouth City Council from and Bauer Media Outdoorwebinar will explore how commercial outdoor media and public infrastructure can work together to support local authorities in meeting the needs of their communities.

Using Portsmouth’s BSIP-funded Super Stops, RTI upgrades and shelter refresh as a live case study, the session will examine how a collaborative, passenger-first approach can improve standards for safety, accessibility and sustainability.

Using real world examples, speakers will share why bus shelters were prioritised within Portsmouth’s investment programme, the challenges passengers faced before the upgrades, and how a holistic approach to design, delivery and lifecycle management can unlock long-term value.

The discussion will also highlight the impact for bus users, from improved comfort and reassurance to better information, inclusivity and confidence in the network, alongside wider social, economic and environmental benefits.
