Welcome to the 9th Annual Local Transport Summit

LTT is delighted to announce that the 2025 Local Transport Summit will be held in Derby, at the heart of the East Midlands Mayoral Combined County Authority area.

The Local Transport Summit is a unique two-day residential retreat, conducted under Chatham House Rules, bringing together senior figures from across the UK local transport sector to share insights, debate priorities, and explore the future of place-based transport planning.

Over the course of the Summit, delegates enjoy:

  • A guided walking tour of Derby’s changing transport landscape

  • Conference sessions with national, regional and local leaders

  • Interactive roundtables and discussions under Chatham House Rules

  • A networking dinner and after-dinner speaker

  • Ample time to connect, collaborate, and reflect in a relaxed and focused environment

Participants include political leaders, decision-makers, transport authority strategists, system designers, researchers, and industry innovators. The event enjoys active support and engagement from the Department for Transport and other leading professional bodies.

2025 Focus: Making the Most of the New Generation of Strategic Authorities

Through its Devolution White Paper, the Labour Government has pledged a “devolution revolution” — empowering a new generation of Strategic Authorities with broad powers to deliver improved public services, local prosperity, and better places to live.

This is an extraordinary opportunity for the local transport and planning sectors — but also a defining challenge. The Summit will explore:

  • How Strategic Authorities can deliver on devolution promises

  • How local and national leadership can align to achieve net zero and growth

  • How to build consensus and trust in a politicised transport landscape

  • How to create integrated, people-centred transport systems fit for the next 25 years

With Derby now confirmed as the home of Great British Railways, the Summit will also look at how the rail sector and local authorities can collaborate to deliver regional regeneration and sustainable connectivity.
