12:30 - 14:00
A free Zoom webinar in partnership with 20's Plenty for Us.
Join us for the third webinar in the highly popular Delivering 20 series, hosted in partnership with 20’s Plenty for Us, where we explore the transformative role of lower speed limits in delivering Vision Zero.
Following on from two previous sessions that attracted over 600 and 800 attendees respectively, this instalment will focus on how 20mph limits are becoming the norm across the UK—and why this shift is fundamental to eliminating road deaths and serious injuries.
In the third of our ‘Delivering 20’ series of webinars, we begin with Will Norman, London’s Walking and Cycling Commissioner, who will explain how much of London is now effectively a default 20. He will discuss the benefits and some of the challenges of implementing wide area 20mph.
Suzy Charman, Executive Director, Road Safety Foundation will then showcase the CIHT report “Progressing the UK towards Safe System implementation”. She will highlight how national limits should be based on “survivable speeds” as a necessary foundation for achieving zero road deaths with “excepting up” only where evidentially safe. She will also reference a recent Road Safety Foundation report which details how 20mph features as a survivable speed in an urban context.
Finally, Sue Nicholls from 20’s Plenty for Us CIC will summarise the recent, highly successful, Vision Zero conference in Liverpool and the progress that has already been made towards a ‘de facto' default 20mph across Wales, Scotland and much of England.
The session will be chaired by Adrian Berendt, Director, 20's Plenty for Us CIC.
