The re-booting of the Local Transport Plan process was a key topic at the 2021 Local Transport Summit last November, where the Department for Transport’s joint Head of Local Transport

Stephen Fidler made a detailed presentation on the Department’s current thinking on local transport, and in particular the intention to re-energise and enhance the role of Local Transport Plans.

This generated a great deal of interest at the event, and considerable follow up discussion in Local Transport Today magazine, and in our online platforms. The coverage and Stephen Fidler’s presentation can be viewed here: https://www.lttmagazine.co.uk/pdfs/LTS2021_1.pdf

This follow up event will act as a mode of early stage outreach for the Department prior to its draft new LTP guidance. It will provide an opportunity for professionals in the sector to air their thoughts on how to help the next wave of LTPs play a key role in shaping local transport that suits both movement needs, and the wider relationship of transport to the other demanding economic, social and environmental issues both already in play and for the future.

Participation is invited by transport professionals and politicians at all levels, from local authorities, STBs and mayors and transport consultancies to give their thoughts and suggestions ahead of new draft guidance now being prepared. This will ensure an independent and well-informed forum at which the DfT will be in both presenting and listening modes.
