Demand responsive services are shooting up the Department for Transport's (DfT) wish list. 'Demand responsive' was mentioned 30 times in the Government’s recently published Bus Back Better strategy. In March 2021, the DfT's Rural mobility fund offered new funding to trial on-demand bus services in rural or suburban areas.
The Bus Back Better strategy DRT wishlist includes:
Places unserved or barely served by conventional buses, such as rural villages and out-of-town business parks
Demand responsive services that are seen as a safe mode of transport in the evenings and late at night
Services in low-density areas and at low-demand times of day
Demand responsive transport integrated with conventional buses, where they exist
During April 2021, Landor LINKS and Padam Mobility have been surveying attiitudes to Demand Responsive Transport, and findings from the survey will be compiled into a free report and shared at this webinar
How flexible, on-demand bus services can help to build back better
This webinar is aimed at local authorities, policy makers and all who are interested in learning more about the opportunities for moving to flexible on-demand transport.
The key aim is to rebalancing the transport offer in sparsely populated areas and allow users to move around with more freedom.
Determining service levels: coverage areas and levels, communication, marketing and operating costs
The user experience: book trips in real time or in advance via an application, a website or a call centre.
Data collection: Transport operators supervise operations and collect data for continuous service improvement
Optimised services: Using smart and dynamic DRT solutions using algorithms for routing, itinerary optimisation and passenger pooling based on artificial intelligence
