Cargo bikes can provide powerful and cost effective and solutions when it comes to solving environmental, logistical, traffic and social challenges.

They are available in a range of forms, with or without electric assistance, and enable easy and efficient options for the transport of both cargo and people.

In May 2020, 18 local authorities in England secured funding from the £2m eCargo Bike Grant Fund, funded by the Department for Transport and delivered by Energy Saving Trust. The fund supports up to 100% of the cost of eCargo bikes for local businesses and funds eCargo bikes for use within local authority fleets. Nationally, funding was allocated through a scheme offering limited companies and organisations up to 20% grant funding towards eCargo bikes.

During the coronavirus pandemic, many cargo bike and eCargo bike schemes have illustrated their value and societal benefits, supporting people and organisations in need.
