Based on the live polling that we carried out at an e-scooter webinar event earlier this month, plus responses to the Transport Select Committee – entitled 'pavement nuisance or transport innovation' – it’s clear that some apprehension remains regarding the best way to pilot e-scooters in the UK.

However, many observers note that safety concerns mirror those relating to cycling a decade ago: riders need helmets, road surfaces, speed, access to pavements and parking zones. How can we give policy-makers, planners, decision-makers and the public clarity that that e-scooters are potentially well-placed to help relieve pressure on public transport in the wake of coronavirus, whilst also keeping private car use levels down.

The webinar will explore:

  • Clarifying e-scooter operator offers to local authorities: collaboration, rider education, safety by design, transparent data sharing and maintenance
  • The potential for e-scooters in the UK’s future transport mix
  • Network planning and impacts on active travel
  • Case studies: Implications for pedestrians and other road users, including those with disabilities
