Fast-tracked statutory guidance, published on May 9 and effective immediately, instructs councils to reallocate roadspace for significantly-increased numbers of cyclists and pedestrians during the COVID-19 pandemic. In towns and cities, some streets could become bike and bus-only.
The government’s supporting £250 million funding programme to encourage walking and cycling will be released across England shortly. A further £5 billion has also been promised to lock-in active travel behaviour change, enable social distancing and kick-start a green transport recovery.
As the Department for Transport engages with local authorities over the coming weeks to discuss projects and mobilisation, this 60-minute webinar will look at the toolkits and regulatory / legislative considerations for space reallocation / cycle lanes, social distancing and tactical urbanism.
Chair: Mark Strong, Managing Consultant, Transport Initiatives
Panellists:
Followed by a facilitated Q+A around the highways / engineering issues involved, considering what is needed to make tactical urbanism workarounds more permanent.
If you have any questions for the panellists, please email Juliana O'Rourke
