In the light of changing living and working patterns, low carbon planning and rapid technological advances, Future Streets will explore street design, road-space allocation, travel modes, accessibility, activity and regulation.

Emerging travel trends and transport technologies bring new spatial demands for street use and, by extension, all vehicles, modes and activities. Despite broadening knowledge and experiences of these trends, urban design and planning implications remain poorly articulated and understood, so inhibiting proactive policy and planning interventions.

Issues will include:

Demand: digital TROs, ITS, open data and traffic flows
Non-vehicle accessibility: walking, cycling, micro-mobility, public transport
Dynamic allocation of street and kerb space, local freight hubs and first/last mile delivery options
Understanding patterns of street use
Supporting alternative social, commercial, and cultural activities
Adapting to shared, electric, and autonomous transport technology
