The Government has committed to a £90 billion infrastructure investment plan for transport. Such investments are justified on their ability to accommodate travel demand, solve congestion and overcrowding problems and generate economic growth long in to the future.
However, many of the assumptions which underpin our projections of future travel have been shown to be limited or wrong. As we look ahead to greater automation and ICT adoption across society, these assumptions look even more uncertain.
Against this backdrop, the Commission on Travel Demand has undertaken the largest ever investigation of its kind in the UK. It’s shown the need for a step-change in how we think about travel demand, how we plan for the future and what kinds of evidence are taken seriously in policy. The implications for climate policy, investment plans and placemaking are far reaching.
This event reveals the finding and recommendations and explores the implications of policymakers, practitioners and researchers.
