Now in its 5th year, Future Highways 2016 has changed to meet the future needs of the local highways management and delivery sector.

It is now possible for local highways authorities to create valuable 'virtual' models of the local highways network that enable the groundbreaking modelling, planning and valuing of real life assets.

The event will focus on the expanding role of data and software in highways asset management:

  • Using developing technical standards

  • Reducing the costs of highways asset management

  • Collecting and analysing asset inventory & condition data in digital format

  • Sourcing higher specification, lower cost tools

  • Using data, apps and sensors and monitors

Why Attend?

Connect
with like-minded individuals as they share valuable insights and experience from outside the sector on the integral value of our local road network to society, economy and wellbeing

Apply the knowledge you gain to support your HMEP self assessment and secure more DfT funding

Be inspired by new ways to balance technical engineering standards with multiple other factors to make informed, prioritised decisions on local highways maintenance

Learn how local authorities are reducing licensing costs and improving the local economy by opening up access to highways asset data

Feel more confident navigating the highways asset data ownership and control challenges between public and private sector

Understand the limitations of the traditional road condition modelling and condition indicators, and be inspired by new world of opportunity, including more accurate deterioration modelling from US and Sweden, and the use of sensors, monitors and crowdsourcing to predict road condition.

"Highways maintenance often gets overlooked.  New technologies and ways of working help other areas to get things done.  Lets collect data and information about assets and materials we use, to make better decisions.  This is the right time to shift our thinking, and for local authorities to share ideas, be creative, and innovate."
Andrew Jones MP, speech at Local Government Technical Advisers Group Conference, 17th May 2016
"Presidential Theme is Connectivity and quality of life.  As technical people, we've worked with the skills we have, and dabbled with defining outcomes.  The task I've set myself during this next year, as President of TAG, to seek greater understanding of how our sector collects and delivers needs of our users.  We must remember our technical capabilities and skills, but put connected customers needs first and translate our technical language so others can understand us."
Rob Gillespie, LG TAG President.
