Key themes at Traffic + Parking 2021

Speakers and expert panels will examine themes such as themes such as:

What’s on the road ahead?
The pandemic encouraged an openness to new ways of working and shopping. Politicians, planners, businesses and the public are receptive to an acceleration in the adoption of electric motoring, clean air schemes, the smarter use of data, active travel and the adoption of shared and micro-mobility services. Is revolution the new normal?

Providing an essential public service
The traffic and parking sector will be playing a key role in delivering both economic recovery and addressing environmental and active travel concerns via implementing Clean Air Zones, adopting new moving traffic regulations and reorganising urban roadspace.

Can we create streets for all?
The pandemic saw the implementation of a wide range of roadspace, kerbside and pavement reallocation measures in urban centres and residential to assist social distancing and encourage walking and cycling. The session will encompass: Low Traffic Neighbourhoods; School Streets; and micro-mobility schemes (e-scooters and bike-hire).

Payment trends: Multi-vendor and cross-boundary
This year the event will be taking a deep-dive into the worlds of multi-vendor and cross-boundary parking transactions. The session will look at:

  • Multi-vendor parking approaches
  • The National Parking Platform
  • The exchange of data between different payment and permit platforms
  • Multi-vendor solutions for electric vehicle (EV) charging.

People and parking: Who parks there?
While we talk about car parking, in fact it is people who park cars. This interactive session will see a range of experts explore:

  • How engagement and consultation can improve public services
  • The value of undertaking market research
  • Developing persona profiles to define who parking service users
  • Using scenarios to develop and refine service provision.

Enforcement trends: Harnessing camera and sensor technology
Camera and sensor systems are now vital elements of traffic and parking management schemes. This session will address the issues around the implementation and enforcement of traffic and parking regulations, bus lanes, School Streets, air quality schemes and noise pollution.

The next steps in the evolution of electric motoring
Traffic and parking teams have been the forefront of delivering electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure and services at the kerbside and in public car parks. However, after many years of chargepoint installations being supported by grant funding, there is a growing commercialisation of EV charging provision, with petrochemical and energy providers acquiring several EV networks.
