UK has over 88,500 public chargepoints

The UK’s electric vehicle public charging infrastructure is continually growing and changing shape to meet the needs of EV drivers.

At the end of January 2026, there were 88,513 electric vehicle charging points across the UK, across 45,242 charging locations, 116,729 charging devices and 122,690 connectors.

Last month, 717 net new charging devices were added to the Zapmap database, across on-street, destination and en-route locations.

Regions showing the highest growth this month were the South East and East of England, at around 2.5%, while Scotland and Wales showed highest regional YoY growth.

The charging network with the most chargepoints is Shell Recharge Ubitricity, with its network of lamppost chargers. Next up is Connected Kerb, which has an extensive network of on-street chargers across the UK. In third place is Pod, a network of destination chargers found mainly in retail car parks, particularly supermarkets.

There are currently 21 live LEVI tenders and this month, announcements of secured LEVI (Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure) funding have come from Suffolk Council, which has received £5.3m of funding and has begun rolling out of around 6,000 chargepoints across the region with Believ.

Jade Edwards, head of insights at Zapmap, comments: “Growth continues to be highest for en-route, Ultra-rapid charging provision, delivering charging speeds of 150kW. This not only provides convenience and confidence to existing EV drivers but also, due to their typically visible locations, assures the next wave of drivers looking to make the switch that the infrastructure is there where it’s needed most.

“We look forward to more announcements around LEVI funded projects getting underway and translating from contracts into near-home charging provision, to increase equitable access for those without access to off-street parking.”

The Zapmap Insights team analyses the comprehensive Zapmap database of charging points to track the growth and composition of the UK's charging infrastructure and provides a series of graphs, which are updated monthly. Individual chargepoints can be viewed on the Zapmap app.
