Evolt Charging has partnered with Dundee City Council to deliver its first work placement scheme for a school student.

Over a nine-week placement at its Dundee office Martha Crosbie from Grove Academy in Dundee gained first-hand experience across all aspects of the sector, ranging from technology and operations to understanding customers’ needs and ambitions for the industry.

As well as completing a detailed workbook showcasing her achieving certain skills, Martha also led a research design project for a new EV charger, culminating in a pitched presentation to Evolt’s senior leadership team.

Due to the success of the placement, Martha will achieve a level 6 SVQ qualification (the equivalent of a Scottish Higher).

Martha said: “My time at Evolt has given me real insight into how the EV industry works and the great people behind it, helping me to develop new skills I know will help me in my future career. I felt trusted to take on responsibility in presenting my own charger design to the leadership team and I’m grateful for all the support and encouragement I received throughout my placement.”

The placement was coordinated by Lynsey Miller, Evolt’s network relationship manager. Miller explains that the scheme underpins Evolt’s pledge to supporting its local communities and commitment to local partnerships with education. “We’re incredibly proud to be supporting the next generation of talent and provide real opportunities to engage within our fast-evolving industry,” she said.

“This scheme is a testament to Evolt’s wider commitment to developing young, local talent by giving back to our communities across Scotland and beyond.

“Martha’s research project was exemplary and provided key insight in the future of EV charging infrastructure. I’m excited to see what Martha achieves going forward!”

Mark Fleming, work experience coordinator at Dundee City Council, said: “We’re delighted to see local employers like Evolt Charging providing real-world opportunities for young people in our local area.

“Partnerships such as these demonstrate the importance of collaboration between the council and forward-thinking businesses who look to develop essential skills for the future workforce. This placement not only boosted the student’s confidence and experience but highlights the positive impact of investing in local talent in Dundee.”

Evolt is working with Dundee City Council to review the next round of placements in Dundee this year, with further initiatives set to be expanded across the wider Evolt business. This will create more localised work experience opportunities, delivered in close partnership with local councils and communities nationwide.

The placement scheme comes off the back of a previous partnership with Dundee and Angus College in which Evolt donated a series of refurbished EV chargers to the college as part of its commitment to education and training, helping to shape brighter futures for the next generation. Building on this, Evolt also worked with the college to provide industry courses and qualifications for staff, and took part in MSIP’s STEM event, engaging with hundreds of students from schools across the region to showcase career pathways and opportunities within the EV charging and clean energy sector.
