A shift from internal combustion engine to electric vehicles alongside the continued decarbonisation of the electricity system should enable the UK to meet its target to reduce emissions by 68% (on 1990 levels) by 2030, states the Climate Change Committee (CCC) in a new report.

The target is the UK’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) as set out in the Paris Agreement, as the first step towards achieving Net Zero by 2050.
