Transport secretary Mark Harper has approved National Highways’ plans for a two-mile tunnel beneath Stonehenge to remove the A303 from the historic site. The plan
will also see the A303 turned from a single to dual carriageway for eight miles between Amesbury and Berwick Down.
National Highways were initially granted consent in 2020, but the plans faced a legal challenge and a High Court ruling against the decision-making process.
