A regional transport authority covering London and surrounding areas has been floated by Hertfordshire County Council. The idea was raised as London mayor Sadiq Khan announced plans for Transport for London to take more control of suburban rail services extending beyond the Greater London Authority boundary.
Khan has submitted to the DfT a business case for TfL to take over the management of suburban rail services as franchises come up for renewal.
