Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council has scrapped its free bus travel scheme for under 18s, replacing it with a 30p flat fare. The free travel scheme was introduced in 2009, with the council funding the scheme costs. The new 30p child fare compares favourably with the rest of South Yorkshire where children currently pay 60p, increasing to 70p from 1 April next year.
