The cost of converting three London bus routes from bendy bus operation to conventional vehicles will cost up to £3m per year, Transport for London figures reveal.

Industry sources have pointed out that the cost is more than the annual budget of many of Britain’s unitary authorities.

Contracts for three bendy bus routes were awarded late last year as part of London mayor Boris Johnson’s controversial manifesto commitment to phase out
