From next April the amount the government gives local authorities for Council Tax Benefit will be cut by 10% in a bid to save £500m. Each council will have to create its own Council Tax Support Scheme, and will have to determine who will no longer be fully exempt. The government has said that elderly people will be protected from the cuts, which means that councils will have to target working age people.
