‘Recycled’ tyres being dumped in countryside


 

Millions of supposedly recycled car tyres are being dumped in the British countryside, according to BBC’s Panorama programme. Unwitting motorists pay garages a “green fee” to dispose of them, with a typical cost of £1 to £2 per tyre.

Garages use some of the cash generated to pay a middleman to take the tyres away and recycle them. But Panorama revealed it had tracked criminal gangs that collect the tyres and dump them on unsuspecting landowners who have rented out disused farm...
