Spot fines for offences unfair, says motoring body

The Government’s plans to make careless driving a fixed penalty offence could lead to drivers being penalised on the basis of “subjective” evidence, a motoring lobby group is warning. The Department for Transport (DfT) is consulting on plans to allow the police to issue three penalty points and a £90 fixed penalty notice for low level careless driving offences. As an alternative, drivers would be offered the chance to pay to attend a remedial course.
