Charities face fines for ‘chugging’


 

Penalties of at least £1,000 could be issued to charities if their street fundraisers, often referred to as “chuggers”, breach rules designed to protect members of the public. The restrictions would mean that such fundraisers cannot follow a person for more than three steps.

The new restrictions will be enforced by the Public Fundraising Regulatory Association (PFRA). The scheme’s introduction follows a year-long trial.
