The DfT has approved a permit scheme to manage roadworks across the ten metropolitan districts of Greater Manchester. The scheme will be administered by Transport for Greater Manchester and will be the first joint permit scheme in the country. Co-ordinating the scheme in this way is expected to reduce costs compared to ten individually-run schemes and ensure a consistent approach across the conurbation.
