Rubbish fines to be lowered, says Defra

 

Householders that overfill their rubbish bins or put them out too early will face reduced fines from now on, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has said.

This follows plans announced last year in a review of waste policy. The government has cut the maximum charges councils can issue from £110 to £80, in a move it says will promote “common sense” among officials. Those who pay up early could have their fines reduced to £40.
