Vanishing manholes costly for Nottingham

 

Rising metal theft crime  is costing Nottingham City Council more than £1,000 a week. Over 200 gulley/manhole covers and 26 metal bins have been stolen since January 2011. The theft of items, including park benches, are placing additional strain upon the public purse, said Peter Moyes, the council’s director of the Crime & Drugs Partnership.
