Portsmouth is using the Fraud Act to secure tougher sentences against those who use counterfeit Blue Badges or steal a disabled person’s identity

One in every 200 Blue Badges issued to around 2.5 million disabled people is misused, according to the Department for Transport (DfT). Badge fraud is now costing the UK an estimated £46m a year. The Blue Badge scheme allows those users and carers to achieve a measure of social inclusion, allowing them to park close to the workplace, shops, amenities and many other places that without the scheme in some cases it would be difficult, if not impossible, to access.
