London fare evasion fines set to rise

 

Fines for fare evasion in London could be increased from £50 to £80. Transport for London (TfL) lost an estimated £63m to fare evasion in 2010.

Fare dodging on London’s buses rose by over £7m to £39.5m while on London Overground the cost of evasion rose from £700,000 to £2.5m. Fare evasion on the Docklands Light Railway rose from £1.3m to £1.4m. However, evasion on the Tube fell from £22.3m in 2009 to £19.6m last year...
