Police vehicle crime unit is axed

 

The specialist police unit that traces and recovers stolen vehicles worth more than £1m each month is being axed as part of the government’s spending cuts.

The Vehicle Crime Intelligence Services is responsible for tracking down the more than 150,000 cars stolen throughout the UK every year but has been told that its £300,000 funding has been withdrawn.
