How to catch badge cheats

Enfield’s specialist fraud team has made significant progress in tackling blue badge abuse, writes Mark Moran


 

Blue badge abuse is a problem across the country. It has been estimated by the Department for Transport that perhaps 10% of the 2.45 million blue badges on issue in the UK are misused.

The blue badge scheme provides a range of parking concessions for people with severe mobility problems who have difficulty using public transport. This means having access to a stolen, borrowed or fake blue badge is a means of avoiding payment for on-street paid parking and residents and business parking bays.
