Utilities that cause road works disruption face fines

 

Several London councils will be able to take action against companies whose road works overrun, if the Department for Transport (DfT) approves a permit scheme for utilities’ road works.

This scheme would enable 13 London boroughs and Transport for London (TfL) more power to co-ordinate road works and deal with those that overrun and cause chaos on the roads.

Contractors will be required to get a permit from the council in advance of carrying out roadworks.
