‘Speeding accepted as normal by government’, say Lib Dems

The government appears to have accepted that current speed limits are too low, according to Liberal Democratic shadow transport secretary Norman Baker.

He referred to Department for Transport (DfT) road statistics for 2008, which show that half of cars on motorways exceed the 70mph speed limit. “Also, 85% of lorries exceeded the 50mph limit on dual carriageways on country roads.”
