Manchester's bus lane scheme has the dual aims of being technically effective and commanding widespread public support, writes Geoff Dudley

In October 2006 Manchester became the first city outside London to implement CCTV enforcement of bus lanes. Since then the city council has set about deploying the right technology for the job, while winning the confidence and trust of the public.

“The technology we use is the latest cutting edge wireless IP transmission which also allows us to be proactive and move our equipment quickly and easily,” said Kate Rennicks, the council’s CCTV services manager
