Visitors to the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland are now able to enjoy a more sustainable journey to the UNESCO World Heritage site following the launch of four new, high-specification electric vehicle charging bays.

The facility has been created by an ongoing partnership between the National Trust and RAW Charging.

The new charging bays are specifically engineered to meet the National Trust’s “Everyone Welcome” standards.

The National Trust has made a commitment to reduce the carbon footprint of visitor travel

The Giants Causeway installation is the latest step in in broader programme that will see over 300 additional bays energised at National Trust properties in the coming months.

Future sites including Lacock Abbey, Felbrigg Hall and Hidcote are set to receive bespoke installations tailored to protect the character of the historic.

The bays, installed and operated by RAW Charging, feature a user-first design with protection bollards spaced wider to ensure interfaces are easy to reach for all visitors. Drivers can access the points via the ChargePoint app or contactless payment.

Jason Simpson, chief executive of RAW Charging, said: “The Giant’s Causeway is yet another popular destination where we’re proud to introduce best-in-class EV infrastructure. This investment goes beyond infrastructure; it is about connecting amazing places and supporting the UK’s transition to cleaner, greener transport. Expanding charging across more locations is an important step in making sustainable travel easier and more accessible for EV motorists.”

“It is equally important that this essential infrastructure is delivered in a way that is sensitive to the unique character of each site. That way, EV owners can enjoy the convenience of modern charging facilities without compromising the scenic environment they have purposely come to experience.”
